Washington
DC
June 12th 09:
On Tuesday June 16th US Senate will be voting on
Enhanced Partnership with
Pakistan Act of 2009 (Bill #S-962).
Salient features of the Senate bill show that it is less restrictive than
the HR 1886
bill approved by House of Representatives last week.
Detail Text of both bills are
available at http://thomas.loc.gov/ (enter
Bill # to get full text).
PAKPAC would like their
supporters to call or email their two US
Senators’ asking them to vote in favor of the Senate bill S-962, and to add
Afghanistan
and Pakistan Reconstruction Opportunity Zones Act of 2009 (Bill # S496) as a
supplement to it. The same was done in the US House of Representatives where
Afghanistan-Pakistan Security and Prosperity Enhancement Act (Bill # HR 1318)
was added as a supplement to Pakistan Enduring Assistance and Cooperation
Enhancement Act 2009 (Bill #HR 1886). A sample letter is provided that can be
emailed or faxed to your Senators’.
Contact information of your Senator is available at
http://pakpac.net/action3.asp.
Please share this information
with your friends and family members asking them to contact their Senators' as
well. Remember that you must email or fax this letter to both
Senators representing your state.
SUGGESTED LETTER TO SENATOR:
Honorable Senator
(Name):
(Name
of State)
As a resident of your state, I
would like to draw your attention to the Senate Vote on Tuesday June 16th
on Enhanced Partnership with Pakistan Act of 2009 (Bill #S-962).
Pakistan
who has been an ally of
United States for more than sixty years is at
crossroads of becoming a beacon of hope for Muslim democracy or a victim of
Talibanization. We, Americans must help the people of
Pakistan in their struggle for economic
independence. This economic assistance that is being provided by the proposed
bill would also act as an investment into American security by rooting out
Taliban’s from Pakistan
and the region.
I request you to consider
voting in favor of Enhanced Partnership with Pakistan Act of 2009,
and to add the pending bill of Afghanistan and Pakistan Reconstruction
Opportunity Zones Act of 2009 (Bill # S496) as a
supplement.
I would also like to draw your
attention that US House of Representatives last week passed Pakistan Enduring
Assistance and Cooperation Enhancement Act 2009 (Bill #HR 1886). I feel that the
house bill requires to micromanage our assistance to
Pakistan, which is neither practical nor
beneficial to either country. I fully support the need for oversight of our
assistance to Pakistan,
but this oversight should not be transactional in nature, rather it should be
based upon economic metrics of added value, benefit, and development.
I request that when the House
and Senate version of the bills come into conference for a final version, that
the Senate version takes precedent on House version, and the stringent
micromanagement conditions of the house bill are removed.
In the end, I know as my
Senator you will do what is right for our State and Country, and to protect us
from the rise of extremism in
Pakistan and adjoining region. I would like to
hear your views on this issue, and I am available to discuss these issues with
you at your convenience.
Yours
Sincerely
(Your Name and names of your family members who reside with you)
